A Little Bit About Me...

Following my graduation from the University of Connecticut I pursued a career in the insurance industry but have also spent time working as a youth group leader and worked as a part-time tutor for several years. While living in Connecticut I tutored homebound high school age children who were either out on medical leave or expelled for disciplinary purposes. I am proud to report that in addition to several other students, I provided tutoring for a full course load covering an entire year for one expelled student who improved grades in every course and went on to graduate. I have also created training programs and hired and trained numerous employees in the insurance industry and serve as co-chair for an annual insurance educational conference held in New York City. A Little Bit About Me...

I knew that I wanted to share what I was passionate about with others before I completed my undergraduate program in biology with certification cum laude.  Once I earned my bachelors of science degree, I pursued my masters program slowly having the opportunity to incorporate my love for the ocean and earning an Eisenhower Fellow at the same time.  My masters of science degree is in the natural sciences.  Although I have taught science and math to both public and private classes, grades 7-12, today, I am the vocational/educational specialist for a group home for young mothers as well as a town tutor.

I feel children are very self-aware and are very vulnerable to positive and negative feedback. Therefore, no matter how little progress is made, praise them. If no progerss is made or if an issue needs to re-addressed, praise them..."That was great, but let's try it this way!" I feel that you are positive, smiling, and they believe that you believe in them, 9 out of 10 kids will follow you!
I was more of an instructor than a teacher. I was a day camp counselor at Solway House parent/child resort in Saugerties N.Y. I instructed kids how to swim, dive, play various sports and gave dancing lessons to the guests. As a high school student I tutored 7th and 8th graders in an after school community center. I was one of a few staff at the University of Connecticut to instruct graduates and staff in the use of the various electronic facilites available to them.
