As a substitute teacher for the past three years, I have experiencing teaching nearly every academic subject. I am a published playwright and have sold over fifteen short scripts for religious one-acts to the Nashville-based Belden Street Music Company. My writing and composition skills are particularly strong, my understanding of grammar is excellent and I have worked extensively in high school English/writing classes. I also held a long term substitute assignment in an Air Force Junior ROTC program in which I taught leadership skills and character building. Although my degree is in music education, most of my teaching was done in Christian schools. I have taught math (through Algebra II), English, grammar, history, and science. I would be proficient in any math through Algebra I and any English, grammar or history through grades 12. I have taught grades 3-12. I have high expectations of students, but I adjust my "teaching style" to the student. For the struggling student, I usually begin at a level that they can easily perform. From that platform, we progress step-by-step until we find the area of difficulty and why it is there. When we master that, we move on. There are a variety of techniques to use, depending on the problem and the student, but the general expectation is that they can do it.

As a current student at Central Michigan, I continue to strive for the best education I can possibly achieve. I have clepped out or aced all english classes at the college level and have found a great interest in writing and reading papers and essays. I am extremely familiar with both APA and MLA writing styles and have had numerous hours and years of practice writing papers and essays for my college level courses. I received a 1 on my MEAP writing and a 30 on my ACT writing/English section. Al though I have never technically tutored or taught a child writing, I am interested in helping aid a child's learning experience. My teaching experience began with my work with troubled youth in Michigan. I worked with the Fine Arts Team using the arts to teach visually. I also used positive Peer Culture for helping students to deal with their problems. I slso taught history at the school. I have 8 years experience; I worked for WSI teacher staffing for 3 yrs. and 5 yrs. for the Battle Creek School System in grades K-12 in most subjects I create a positive atmosphere and help students to be responsible first to themselves and then to their community. I also try to make my students aware of their potiential and guide them in processing information by first understanding the context in which it is used. Then I like to use visuals in my teaching style. I prefer to start with testing of some kind to assess the developmental level of the student.

In 2006 I graduated from the University of Michigan with a BS in Engineering Science. It gave me an understanding in a broad range of mathematical areas as well as areas of other sciences. During that time I worked with volunteer organizations like Salem Housing and Habitat for humanity for three years, which enabled me to mentor a variety of ages. I recently have spent the last six months in the Head Start Program as a center teacher. We prepare them for kindergarten. I have taught all grade levels.
