Patient tutor who helps with content AND study strategies.

I've helped in my mother's elementary and middle school classrooms since age ten. In high school and college, I loved coordinating study groups and helping (and learning from) my peers. Hoping to help both children/teens and adults as they endeavour to learn! I'm a current student at NAS Pensacola - so I'm always reviewing learning techniques myself and revising my strategies.
Working one-on-one with the student to assess their current level and what study methods will work for them. Will prepare before tutor session if you send curriculum/specific problems!

My comments on tutoring ASVAB : Math and Arithmetic sections only.

My teaching style depends on the student. In other words, I change my teaching techniques to fit the level and personality of each student.

I have a Master's degree in Psychology. I use principles of human’s learning behavior, cognitive process, and memory mechanism in teaching and creating a curriculum.

A Little Bit About Me...

I became a published author of game reviews for a computer magazine at age 15. I worked at the University of Pennsylvania in Chemical Engineering under an Army Research Office grant, then as a software developer for the Mechical/Materials Engineering Dept. During college, I was in food service for 5 years, then a Records Clerk in county government. I was Advertising Director and Business Manager for two small, innovative Philadelphia newspapers. I have been a tutor/editor for the Royal Thai Scholars program (government scholarship students) and done private tutoring and editing for approximately 10 years. I also have experience in pharmaceutical and software-as-service marketing.
My teaching-style is rigorous yet kind. My students say that no one has ever criticized their writing and thought so thoroughly and constructively. I'm known for my patience working with students with fore ... read more

I try to keep the material fresh and I avoid boredom and repetition at all costs. One of my best tools to connect with a young person is through humor. If the student feels relaxed they are more likely to absorb the information. I also use reverse psychology to turn the tables so they actually find themselves teaching me the material. This has been a successful tool with children I have mentored as well as my own children.
I began teaching/tutoring while in graduate school. I tutored undergrads in sociology, psychology, and social statistics. I also taught driver's education to high school students while in grad school. After ten years working in law enforcement, I switched to social services and I have been mentoring children in foster care for the past twenty years.

I enjoy working with students. I believe that everybody can achieve their goals through hard work and dedication. I am patient and understanding. I use a customized method of instruction with students. My experience has shown me that there are many ways to instruct and maximize student learning. I analyze student strengths and weaknesses and unlock their individual potential with customized instruction. No matter the subject, it is important for students to gain the basics or theoretical foundation first, and then learn how to apply it. My goal is for students to understand their subject better and to achieve and potentially surpass their own expectations.
As a college graduate, I have held myself to a high standard of academic achievement. My degrees in Exercise Science, Liberal Arts, and Electronics Systems Technology have given me a diverse background in different subjec ... read more

My style of teaching mathematics, science and Japanese is PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. It is only through solving problems (for mathematics and science) and practice (for Japanese) that this knowledge becomes ingrained in a student so that they are confident to move forward.
I began tutoring high school and college students in 1986. I have 6 children of my own who I have raised and taught science and mathematics. I worked 2 years as an adjunct professor at the University of Florida and was a volunteer instructor at Brigham Young University. I speak Japanese fluently and am semi fluent in German.

Both my parents are educators and have instilled in me the fundamental importance of education. I enjoy working with children and seeing them succeed on their own terms. I am willing to work diligently to see a child meet his or her educational goals. I believe that a comfortable learning environment makes learning fun for a child and also makes material retention longterm. I also encourage critical thinking and personal relationships to the material.
Having moved between English, History, and Anthropology during my undergraduate years, I've surveyed quite an extensive portion of the social sciences. I have earned a major in Anthropology and a minor in History. The workloads for these courses included several 50+ page ethnographic reports in addition to the basic course curriculum. I've previously worked with children at the Kids on Campus program at OWC, teaching Songha ... read more

I have been tutoring peers since before high school in math and science and as I have gotten older I have continued tutoring peers, colleagues, college, high school and middle school students. In addition to tutoring, I have been teaching off and on throughout my entire college and graduate school careers. I started teaching general chemistry labs in 1998 while I was a student at Mercer University and continued teaching until I graduated in 2001. While at Mercer, I was also involved with the Upward Bound program where I taught Physics and Chemistry to inner city high school students during the summer on Mercer's campus. Additionally, I was involved with an outreach program where we did science demonstrations in the local elementary schools. By the time I graduate from Mercer I knew I wanted to teach but I didn't know if I would prefer high school, college or graduate students. I de ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

In my military experience, I see all sorts of learning styles and ability levels. I am able to break down hard concepts of math/science/engineering so that regardless of learning style, we can work towards understanding. I find that many students struggle because no professor has taken the time to relate it to the student in a way that they can internalize and retain. I firmly believe that everyone can reach their potential if high expectations are set and a path to reach goals is set forth. I chose to become a teacher in my spare time because I think that children deserve to be pushed to the highest standards to achieve goals, so the student’s success is my total focus. I’m relaxed, considerate, professional , and very flexible.
I have one BS in Electrical Engineering, and while an upper-class student tutored younger students. As a senior, I also tutored Intro to EE students on re ... read more
