Tutor: Math, Physics, and Chemistry.

When I was studying engineering at University of Michigan, I took a job as a tutor at Washtenaw Community College. This was the most rewarding job I ever had. Since about the year 2000, I have been working as a freelance tutor in the subjects of math, chemistry and physics. I also tutor students in engineering courses. I generally work with college students or upper-class high school students. Normally I work in the Brighton/Howell Michigan area. I meet most students at a public library or coffee shop. My average rate is $50 per hour. This can be negotiated, however. I like to take the students ability to pay into consideration and will charge less per hour if advanced payment can be arranged.
I like to work one on one with students in a neutral location. Small groups are not out of the question however.

Mathematics Teacher Grades 7-12

I like to have the kids be interactive with my my teaching. I have the kids fill out "fill in the blanks" while I am lecturing and I like to have the kids come up to the board and do problems after the lecturing. I also like to apply real world applications when possible.
I am currently working as a substitute teacher in many districts in metro Detroit. I have taught Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Precalculus, and Trigonometry at Oakland Christian School where I did my student teaching internship. Although the majority of my work experience is in business, my selling and people skills are tremendous as a teacher. Asking the "right" questions are the key to sales and can also be applied to teaching.

Math Made Easy

As a graduate of Michigan State University in the area of Civil Engineering, I have a high level of focus in the areas of Math and Science. I am currently studying to obtain Professional Engineering license in the spring. My occupation requires me to use different computer software as well as knowledge in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. I'm required to perform calculations daily on construction projects for concrete, asphalt and soils placement. During the last 2 years I have tutored algebra and chemistry.
I have tutored individuals from various ages. I have patience when it comes to providing an example for completing the problems. Everyone learns differently. It’s just a matter of being flexible with the challenges that they may be faced with when it comes to mathematics. My goal is to make sure that they can learn just a little more each time I am assisting them. I also hav ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

In 2006 I graduated from the University of Michigan with a BS in Engineering Science. It gave me an understanding in a broad range of mathematical areas as well as areas of other sciences. During that time I worked with volunteer organizations like Salem Housing and Habitat for humanity for three years, which enabled me to mentor a variety of ages. In the last year I've worked with a homeschooling group on a project called, "Leaping Lizards."
I love people's capacity for learning. It gives me joy to know that I have helped another learn something new. I am patient, relaxed, and try to keep tutoring interesting for the recipient. It's important that the tutoree is engaged and enjoys grasping new lessons. I like to guide students into understanding the problem rather than just merely giving them the answer.

All students have the ability to be great with the right amount of guidance which is where I come in. A Little Bit About Me...

The one thing that I observed about the learning process, is that a person quickly grasps a concept if he/she is interested, or the topic is thoughtful and challenges the wit of a person and lastly, a person is very comfortable in learning through his/her friends. Nobody is stupid not to grasp a concept. It is the methodology, technique and feeling of comfort and interest, that is required. Hence I try to be affable and was more involved. A picturization or a real life example is more likely to fit in a person's mind. I used this technique and was very successful. With this regard, about 70% of my class scored 90% and above in their respective examinations.
I have about 3 years of extensive hands-on and successful teaching experience, I am confident in my ability and passion to teach mathematics. Being a versatile individual I have taught below, on and above average grade level. ... read more

I began teaching figure skating in high school from there I went on to tutoring math. As a freshman in college I tutored upperclassmen in calculus. I tutored both math and economics on my own throughout the years. When I was an undergraduate student at Wayne State University I worked as a calculus tutor for their Math Department. A Little Bit About Me...

As a future teacher, I have been driven to refine my teaching methods. I have earned a BS in Biology while taking a number of courses in economics, which has enabled me to understand both life and social sciences. In addition, I have extensive grammatical skills due presentations and term papers in my graduate studies. A number of friendships with non native speakers of English has given me experiences with ESOL. I have tutored students in English and sciences.
I enjoy working with children and as well as young adults. I believe that everyone has a different style and pace of learning. I feel small groups are ideal groups for learning because of scaffolding possibilities between students as well as individual attention possibilities. I believe that learning is not only purely academic, but also must take into consideration other factors of a student's life.

A Little Bit About Me...

I think the best way to teach is to show students how they can break down problems and find answers to questions that may, at first glance, seem overwhelming. I have yet to meet someone who is incapable of grasping a subject, and I am able to stay calm and remain patient as students begin to expand their knowledge in areas that are new to them. While I am not able to learn things for a student, my job as a tutor is to provide them with the encouragement, support, and knowledge that I have so that they can obtain an understanding of their subject.
As a recent college graduate, the stress, confusion, and (ultimately) joy involved in the attempt to master new subjects are fresh in my memory. While nothing can replace experience, I believe that being young provides me with an edge over those older than me when it comes to connecting with students. I have tutored a wide range of stu ... read more
