A Little Bit About Me...

In my classroom one might observe the same material presented in various ways by means of lectures, DVD documentaries, readings, discussions, and Power Point presentations in order to accommodate the students’ different methods of knowledge acquisition.
For the last four years I have been at Cardigan Mountain School, where I taught English, Latin, Homeric Greek, ESL, and Ancient History. I collaborated with the English Dept., providing, via Power Point Lecture Presentations, the historical background to Tennyson’s epic account of the Light Brigade at Balaklava and Shakespeare’s Henry V, and, as part of the eight grade history seminar, I delivered a forty-minute lecture on Hitler and the Holocaust. My teaching style evolved to be well-structured but informal and entertaining. I am a comfortable and natural speaker and have had little trouble engaging the majority of students to be active participants in the classroom. However, my approach to the material is flexible and will vary considerably with the subject. In tutoring, I tailor the approach to the student, and attempt to achieve an active learning environment by engaging the interest of the student. For instance, in teaching writing and composition, this can be accomplished by letting the students play a role in choosing the subject material.
