Have tutored peers and younger students starting in high school and continuing throughout my undergraduate. Fundamental understanding is what is most important. Just knowing which equation to use for a certain type of problem will not help a student succeed in future courses. Students should also know that repetition is the best way to master a skill.

As student in IPFW I used to tutor in CASA from 2002-2006 at the tutoring center in IPF. I tutored General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Algebra, and Pre-calculus. Then when I earned my BS in Chemistry, I started tutoring in Ivy Tech Community College. I tutored General Chemistry, Algebra, and Pre-calculus. Since Arabic is my first language I was teaching Arabic for kids and adults in Islamic Center of Fort Wayne on Sundays. My undergraduate degree is in French however I took extensive coursework in mathematics and chemistry and have a good understanding of all the sciences. During my undergraduate studies, I tutored other students in science courses and lead a laboratory course. These were rewarding experiences as I watched my peers learn and thrive in academics. While working toward my Masters in Environmental Science I was able to teach the laboratory portion of an introductory course for two years. This allowed me to develop lesson plans, tests and quizzes and lab activities. Teaching is very subjective. Each individual learns according to his/her own style. What I find challenging and rewarding is to find that point where it “clicks”.
