English Language Teacher/Tutor

I have taught ESL for 12 years and high school English for 2 years in public schools. I tutored my first subjects many years ago while in college when I tutored Composition I and II, Poetry, and Psychology. I have since tutored many hours in English-related areas. I specialize in English as a Second Language and have taught students from all around the world at a variety of proficiency levels. I have teaching licenses in multiple subjects in ND and MN and have a Master's degree in Teaching.
I believe learning should be fun. I also think its perfectly okay to make mistakes and know that we all do! I try to make all students feel at ease around me and we usually find ourselves laughing as we learn. I assess your skill levels in multiple areas and gear my lessons to your needs. During my time at Concordia College, I was a strong tutor and office manager for the Reading/Writing Center, helping with composition in both English and Spanish. My grammar and usage knowledge is quite extensive, and I love tutoring writing and composition. I've also done quite a lot of tutoring in the ESL environment, as well as tutoring elementary math and reading.
I see my job as that of facilitator: the student is there, the information is there, and the student is the learner. I do believe that all children learn differently and my FIRST goal is to find out how that child learns best and go around the child's needs---not expecting the child to learn how I teach and limit that child. Because of my experiences in the past, I've had great opportunities of working with Special Needs children of which is a grea example of finding the way the child learns best. I love teaching children and I love learning along with them as well. I love HANDS-ON learning, allowing the child(ren) to explore in order to learn about the subjects and about themselves as well.
