Since I've been tutoring I've helped around 50 students individually and have developed different teaching styles to suit different students. My teaching style varies depending on the student I am working with. I try to build new skills using prior knowledge and interests. There are several different ways to explain an idea. The trick is finding the right one that the student will understand. Sometimes it takes a few tries before the student "gets it." I never give up on a student. I believe everyone can succeed with the right motivation and support. Once the student gets the concept, I let he/she work more independently while I step back as an observer of the learning.
