I have worked in a higher education environment since 2000. I tuaught CPR and First Aid classes for 4 years for Child Care providers from 1996 to 2000. I am one class from completing my MBA in accounting. I will officially graduate in May of 2010. I developed a heart for young people at an early age, as my parents were missionaries to Native Americans. I truly believe that education has changed my life and promote higher education. I am able to relate to children of all ages and in the past two years especially related to high school and young college students who were looking for their way in life.

I have 5 years of teaching experience both at the high school and community college level. As an English teacher, I have extensive experience with all aspects of Language Arts, including grammar, research, and writing skills. My teaching style follows my core belief – that all students can learn. I utilize a variety of teaching styles and techniques to achieve the best possible results with each student. While completing my BBA and MA degrees at Wichita State University, I worked for Student Support Services, a TRIO program located on campus. For eight years I tutored low-income and first generation university students serviced by the program. By utilizing innovative tutoring techniques, I achieved a high success rate. In fact, several of my students graduated from university with honors, a goal initially thought to be unachievable. Statistics have revealed that only thirty three percent of students graduate from university, a dismal situation to say the least. I have an overwhelming desire to increase this percentage exponentially. Only then can we truly say that the children of today are the leaders of tomorrow. I have been a pastoral minister for 25 years, have taught refugees English as a Second Language, have taught community college courses as an adjunct instructor, have taught innumerable courses within the congregations I have served, including an after school tutoring program for young children. I am competent to tutor in English (all levels), history, and social sciences and love interacting with students. I love interacting with children and teenagers. I strive to give my students both the fundamentals of the subject we are studying and a sense of esteem about their ability to achieve in that subject. I am successful at this because I am extremely patient, listen carefully to the student and let them contribute to the lesson, and have a thorough knowledge of the subject matter and can relate questions that seem unrelated to the topic at hand, but leads into a topic that would be examined later in a student's educational experience. This helps to create confidence and foster an environment in which he or she can feel free to think creatively about subjects from and early age. I My first formal teaching position was as an undergraduate teaching assistant for the chemistry laboratory for non-chemistry majors. I received my BS from MIT in 1988 and went on to the University of Pittsburgh where I taught two of the six years I was there.
