My comments on tutoring Study Skills : I have worked with many children and adolescents over the years with ADHD, however, I must say that my most substantial experience has come from raising two boys with ADHD. My 19 year old was diagnosed (formally) at age 6 and has ADHD Combined Type. My 15 year old was diagnosed at an older age, mainly due to his having ADHD Inattentive Type. I began learning everything there was to learn about ADHD, its symptoms, treatment, and learning styles. I have been to many conferences and trainings and have tested and used many different techniques of teaching and handling academics, study skills, organizational skills, behavioral issues, planning, reminding, and other areas of executive functions.
I have over 30 years of experience with infants, children, adolescents, and families, including work with infants and children in development of age appropriate skills. Much of my educational background revolved around varying disabilities, their behaviors, and their causes and effects. I have also had substantial experience working with special needs populations in the areas of developmental delays, medical, emotional, and mental health needs, working in teaching, clinical, supervisory, case management, and service coordination positions.
I worked as a teacher in a private school for children with dyslexia. My position was as a Language Fundamentals Teacher and I was trained using the Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching. This is a multi-sensory approach and very highly regarded as a successful approach for children with dyslexia and reading disabilities.
