I think the most useful tutor emphasizes critical thinking. I have noticed that many students focus on memorization instead of really understanding the processes behind science, math, and foreign languages. I try to focus on how and why things are, rather than just the fact that they are. I believe that this approach provides students with a deep understanding of the material and an ability to problem-solve on their own. They can then develop better comprehension, and tend to be more interested in learning.
I graduated with my undergraduate degree in marine biology in 2002 and then worked as a research biologist for two and a half years before returning to school to pursue my master’s degree. A Little Bit About Me...

My offerings are in writing and Speech Communication. After graduating from the University of Georgia, I attended a state accredited graduate school in Florida and Mississippi: Reformed Theological Seminary. Graduation led to a year long internship in the Presbyterian ministry. After ordination, I spent 12 years as a minister, including three as a chaplain in the National Guard, including Iraq. Upon return, I set aside Army and Church to spend two years on Lookout Mountain letting a stress fracture heal and finishing a novel, begun in 2000. This 850 page book, The Canterbury Chronicles is under consideration by Skoob Press of Athens, Georgia. I've also written 12,000 words of poetry.

Florida Writes is an assessment of writing proficiency which incorporates the assessment of higher order skills, since students are required to generate and develop the ideas that form the basis for their written responses. Looking for help? Select a tutor today. Beginning in 2010, each essay was scored by one rater. In previous years, two raters were used and the scores were averaged. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible. Additionally, beginning in 2010, each student within the same grade level was required to write an essay using the same mode of writing (narrative, expository, or persuasive).
