I have been a teacher for over six years. I have taught and/or tutored subjects ranging from elementary reading and math to high school math and science. I am permanently certified in New York State to teach Biology and general science. In addition, I am pursuing certificates in both physics and math.

Whenever a game can help solidify ideas, it is utilized and learning is always fun. Children reach benchmarks, such as reading independently and math computation at different rates, so it's important to be consistent but very patient and encouraging. I worked a year in the Tutoring Department located at Mohawk Valley Community College. This was an open lab which meant 3-4 students would need help at any one particular time period. Subject Help that I was required for involved Pre-Calculus, Calculus (I & II), Physics, Algebra, Trigonometry and basic electrical courses. Currently I am working as an adjunct at the college teaching an Introductory to Electronics course that involves both lab and lecture time. I was taught to teach by "Socratic Method" which is possibly the best way to teach/tutor. I ask many questions to check the students responsiveness and understanding of key areas of the topics including a reinforcing of the ideas being learned. I cannot count how many students I have had come in frustrated and confused and then quickly answer questions that were simple and built up to understanding harder ideas by the end of a session. And the best award of all is seeing joy and elation that they have a good chance of getting a high grade after learning material. "Socratic Method" is the best proof a tutor can see that a student is learning and has learned what they have been taught.
