Once I am assigned a child I initally spend time going over a typical homework assignment to see where they are having some trouble. I get them to read out loud to me to see what their level of reading is. Some kids have problems sounding out the words or with simple rules of grammar. All children are students; they can learn. The question is how best do they learn? I have used many differing styles from rote memorization through self-paced self-education.
