I have worked with children in various settings since 1974. My experience began working as a summer camp counselor in different residential camps for those with special needs from 1974 - 1980 inclusive. Since then I have worked as a psychiatric technician with children and adolescents hospitalized in in-patient psychiatric units. I worked as a recreation therapist with children and adolescents for over 20 years in residential treatment centers, psychiatric hospitals, mental health day treatment, and alternative schools. I have worked in therapeutic foster care. Currently I am a mental health counselor in a public elementary school. Enthusatic elementary teacher with a passion for teaching!

I taught for two years in third grade and two years in second grade in North Carolina. I am currently awaiting my Virginia elementary education license. I prepared third grade students for the End of Grade state standardized test, in which my classes did very well. As a teacher in North Carolina, I communicated frequently with parents, worked daily with co-workers to review student data for the purpose of remediation, and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of my diverse students. I helped to prepare students for the demands of a 21st century economy through daily use of technology, collaborative learning groups and hands-on, inquiry based instruction. Character building skills were incorporated in all academic areas. As an elementary school teacher, I prepared students to be independent, life-long learners.
