Experienced high school and middle school math tutor

When tutoring, I try to meet the students needs by utilizing methods of teaching which take into consideration the student's learning style. I explain concepts using visual representations as well as numerical/algebraic models. I am a very patient teacher who will find various ways of explaining math concepts, until I find one that works for the student. I teach students the "why" behind the process rather than explaining the process of finding a solution by only listing a number of steps, which the students easily forget. If the student knows why a process works, they will be able to recreate it again at a future date. A Little Bit About Me...

I have a passion for teaching but waited until I gained some "real world" experience. I found that this has helped me relate to my students since I am able to make meaningful connections to their learning.
I like to discover what my students already know about the topic and to expose any misconceptions. Brainstorming activities work well for me. I like to help define the topic in common terms, not the classic dictionary method. I use presentation, discussion, videos and hands on activities. Most of what I do is inquiry based.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe knowledge and success go hand-in-hand. That’s one of the main reasons I enjoy teaching and tutoring students of all ages. I’m grateful for the people in my life that have taken the time to teach and show me various things. I enjoy doing the same, passing along any knowledge that I’ve gained because information should be shared. I try to structure my teaching style to be a bit informal, so the student feels comfortable learning and asking questions. I also try to structure my teaching around the students learning style so that they can get the most out of the session. Lastly, I try to show any tricks for remembering certain information that either I was taught by my own professors or that I came up with during my own studies.
