I think the most important part of instruction is to give the student a framework for learning. I help them solve problems by asking leading questions so that they can develop the intuition for solving problems on their own, of course introducing and explaining basic concepts when necessary. Along the way, I explain insights, tricks, and tools that I use to solve problems. I constantly emphasize and repeat these insights, tools, and tricks until the student remembers them. In this way the student is building and strengthening his intuition.
Since graduating from MIT with a degree in Math, I have worked at the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge, MA and Siemens AG in Munich, Germany. For six years I have enjoyed a "love affair" with teaching. Beginning with two years as an elementary school tutor, I was able to gain experience in teaching all subjects, and specialized in reading for students with learning disabilities. Once I began graduate school I began tutoring undergraduate students in a variety of subjects within the colleges of humanities and social and behavioral science. I also worked as a teaching assistant for two years, during which time I was the primary teacher for 1/3 of each semester. I will be substitute teaching for several Anthropology classes this fall while a professor is out of the country for six weeks.
