Latin is one of my top subjects!

As a tutor, I find that it is important to present the material to the students in a way that they can relate to. My job as an educator is to teach them how to learn it and make them want to learn it. I personally do not believe that negative reinforcement is beneficial. Positive responses to students are extremely valuable, even if they may occasionally give the wrong answer. This will give them the motivation to do well. My philosophy is that teaching is part knowledge, part communication, and part intuition. My intuition is necessary to understand where a student is getting stuck. I myself already understand the material; the challenge is to understand why a student does not. A variety of communicative teaching approaches is best. I recently graduated with my Bachelors from the University of Tennessee. My degree is in English, but I have tons of experience tutoring in just about everything. The ages I have tutored most is older elementary, middle, and high schools as well as college. I can especially help prepare students for college and help them succeed in college. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that the most important characteristic that a teacher must have is consistency. The teacher must develop a system of rigorous work with ample support. I believe that it is imperative to possess an in-depth knowledge of the subject which one teaches, not just be a few pages ahead in the book. People have all different manners of learning information, and most people need a lot of visuals and real life experiences, especially if their first language is not English. Teachers should be able to get to know each of their students and differentiate their instruction to help all of their students. Tutoring is a great way for teachers to get to know students better and thus better address their needs with quality instruction.
I have taught 5th and 6th grade ESL students for this semester, and I have taught English two summers in Korea at intensive English immersion camps.
