A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very hands on. I understand that students learn in a variety of ways. Some are hands on, and need to actually get their hands on the project to understand. Some learn by seeing it. They have to see it and then maybe write it and learn by visualizing. Some learn by listening. They can listen to a lecture and hang on to every word. I understand that all children are different, and therefore lessons have to be taylored to fit each child's learning needs. I love children and enjoy teaching. When I was teaching in a public school, I was very well liked by both children and parents. I was there for every child; not just the good ones. My goal was to take the child that other teachers talked negatively about in the lunchroom and show them that I had no problems with that same child. Teachers should not stereotype. Every child equally deserves a quality education.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a recent graduate of West Virginia State University, I am very focused on helping children learn to be successful students and productive citizens. I am an Elementary Education major and I have been working with children since I was 15 years old. I have been a swimming, gymnastics, cheerleading and dance coach for many years. However, as much as I believe in children being active, I believe they must put academics first. When I work with children I like to make learning relevant to their life and I like to present it in a way that helps them to best comprehend the material. I feel that I am well prepared to work with children and I can help provide a solid foundation for learning.
My passion in life is to work with children. I love helping children learn and to see the "light bulb" go off in their head. I believe that all children can learn, but they learn in many different ways ... read more

I am a graduate of West Virginia State University, with a BA in psychology. I graduated magna kum laude. I tutored last when I was in High School, but worked with children for two years at Highland Hospital. I am an avid reader and would love to teach others to enjoy it.
I enjoy working with children because they have such a capacity to learn and I love seeing the joy when they learn somthing new. I believe in taking your time and being thorough. I understand that some things take more time to learn, that just makes it even more rewarding when they finally get the concept. I believe every child can reach their full potential if given the chance.

As an undergraduate I tutored in the help center of WVSU. My last semester I had to choose between Biology and Chemistry, due to a schedule conflict, and I chose Chemistry. After graduating, I worked toward my PhD at Montana State University for two years. I worked my way through teaching labs, and completed 19 credit hours, before I had to move home for family reasons. I also worked in the help center during the day and held weekly study groups in the evenings.
I believe that there are no boring subjects, only boring teachers. I teach so others may learn to find interest. My heart races when I help someone learn. We are always learning, and I will always be a student. I am able to relate to people on that level, regardless of subject level. No one is born knowing this stuff, we learn through life. To teach is to learn. It must be nice to teach to teach. This is my goal.

I love teaching and working with all children. I seem to have a great raport with children and can communicate with them very well. There is little that is more gratifying than seeing a lesson you have been trying to teach someone hit home, especially when it has taken a lot of hard work on both the part of the tutor and the student to get to that point. I am a very hard worker and I am determined to succeed in every task I undertake. I believe that students who are willing to work hard enough are capable of excelling in just about anything. Accordingly, I ask my students to work hard, but I try not to overwork them. When I am tutoring, I am willing to put in the time and effort necessary to help the student succeed. Their goals become mine, and I will do whatever I can to see that they meet or surpass those goals. I try to take time to celebrate even small successes and not dwell on incidents where the student falls short of his or her goal because allowing a student to get too discouraged or frustrated is a s ... read more
