hands-on, student-centered learning I am a senior majoring in Elementary Education at Brigham Young University-Idaho. I grew up reading the nutritional panel on everything. I was absolutely fascinated how the body used the food that we eat to derive the energy and perform the tasks necessary for life. This interest in the human body led me to pursue a degree in nutrition. I recently graduated Brigham Young University the honored graduate of my college with a BS in Nutritional Science. I earned my Degree at BYU-Idaho where I majored in Math and minored in Health. While in college I taught some lower level math classes. I went on to work at a year round school working with troubled teens. I was able to learn many different teaching strategies to work with different personalities. I have been able to develop a great teacher-student relationship of mutual respect and trust. I like to get to know the students learning style so I can adjust my teaching strategy to better fit them. Some students have disabilities that make drilling or repetition styles of teaching and tutoring difficult and tiresome, while other thrive on it. Others need hands on learning opportunities and problems to work through on their own. Regardless of the student’s need, I am a tenacious teacher. I taught Bulgarian as a second language to college-aged students for close to 3 years. During this experience I also taught leadership and communication skills to prepare these students for a full-time service in Bulgaria. During the last 2 years I have also tutored people learning Russian and/or Bulgarian who were taking college classes on the subject.
