I am an experienced elementary classroom teacher. I have earned a bachelor degree, BS in Elementary Education with a minor in history, and a MEd in Educational Administration and Supervision. During my teaching career I have attended numerous workshops and training sessions covering a wide variety of educational topics and issues. I have coached/sponsored UIL Spelling and Herald Post Spelling Bees. I have done in - house (school) tutoring and after school tutoring with all elementary levels. I have tutored students in the areas of Math, Reading, Language Arts, and standardized tests. I have worked on Curriculum Committees, GT Committees, and a Textbook Adoption Committee. The method of teaching I prefer is maieutic, i.e., one which draws knowledge from the student, rather than attempts to place it in him/her from without. To me, the process of asking questions and allowing the student's curiosity and intelligence to reach conclusions is far more effective than one-sided lecturing. I am endlessly creative, coming up with myriad examples to illustrate concepts.
In 2006 I taught graphic design topics at Westwood College. In 2007 I taught the same subject at The Creative Circus (roughly equivalent to an MBA program for designers, writers, photographers, and art directors). In 2008 I taught in the design department for Georgia State University. This summer I traveled to a remote region in India to teach English.
