My comments on tutoring Earth Science : I do have a high interest in geology and can assist up to college level students enrolled in introductory courses in earth science, geology, etc.

I have taught for many decades and use a variety of teaching styles since all students learn differently. I am more of a 'traditional' style teacher, realizing that the basics are vital. I am a visual learner myself, but realize that my students may not. I always teach so that all students learn..using visual, hands on, and auditory presentation of material. I am extremely thorough and endeavor to be sure my students have mastered a concept before moving on to more complex topics. I ALWAYS make what I am teaching relevant to the students...showing them how they will use what we are learning in a real life situation. This not only makes it more interesting, but the students enjoy seeing real life situations in which they can use some of the more obscure topics such as fractions, etc. I make learning fun and exciting! Getting the students involved and active is a huge part of lea ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a listener first and foremost. I want to know what my students expect from me and in what areas s/he regard as most essential to her/his success. I believe all people can learn and understand. It is a pleasure to watch students grow in skill and comprehension and move toward confidence.
I love teaching. I earned my BA before I was old enough to vote. While my classmates were in his/her senior year, I was teaching. Eventually I earned my M.Ed. in Reading, then started School Administration and Adult Education. In all these fields I find similar necessary skills: patience, co-operation among staff and colleagues, knowledge of subject matter, communication with the community and parents and a well defined curriculum. Moreover, I am a published author and a former writer with St. Louis Globe Democrat - Suburban Journals. As a favor to my students, I often evaluate papers for subm ... read more

Since students learn in many ways—by seeing and hearing; reflecting and acting; reasoning logically and intuitively; memorizing and visualizing,I provide various guidelines for how I want tasks completed in this course based upon student pool. Students might describe me as a knowledgeable coach who dispenses the fact, principles, and concepts they need and works closely with someone to correct problems in how they think and behave. I give students a lot of personal support and encouragement to do well in their course.
As a supplemental Instructor/tutor at UMSL Department of Biology, I facilitate the learning process by explaining concepts and encouraging open communication with students. In addition, I conduct weekly review sessions to integrate how-to-learn with what-to-learn. I grade exams and laboratory reports.

I have just graduated from the University of Tulsa with B.S. in Physics and a B.A. in Music. I have tutored most subjects at the middle and high school levels, and physics and music theory at the college level. I have also graded homework for college-level physics. I have over 10 years of Elementary Education Experience, working as a long-term Substitute Teacher,a Parent Educator, Community Recruiter, Grant Writer, and Tutor. I love helping children explore and develop their potential through learning. My speciality is reading, grammer, and math. It is important for a child to know how to express themselves orally but equally important through their written work. It is equally important for them to understand and grasp the fundamentals of math concepts if they are going to be successful adults. Under my guidance the children I have tutored have improved their grades and achieved honor roll status in a very short-time.
