A Little Bit About Me...

Over many years as an IT person, I worked with clients, one on one, teaching them how to get their computer to do what they want it to do. Often times, the client would be very frustrated. I needed to first, relieve the frustration – then determine what needed to be done to rectify the situation (through a question and answer processes). Additionally, positive reinforcement is needed throughout the learning process to allow for a more affirmative result.
I am very patient and concerned. My major objective is to identify the area that needs to be addressed. I often also use comparisons to 'real world' similarities in order to make the point. As an Ivy league graduate, I was driven to acheive a high level of excellence in education. I have earned a bachelor degree in education and masters degree in education with a major in mathematics. I have also worked in the business field and am able to teach students today how to apply mathematics in the real world. Recently I have been teaching as a substitute teacher in 3 counties and I have been doing alot of tutoring as well.
I am certified to teach secondary mathematics and social studies by the state of OHIO. I also enjoy teaching college students and tutoring on a weekly basis. My teaching experience started teaching in a pre-school with 4 year olds. I then taught 3rd grade for 1 year and kindergarten for 9 years. When I updated my certificate (just in the last year) I did some teaching in a mildly handicapped resource room.
I feel my style of teaching is one of being a facilitator. I choose to interact with the student by asking questions so enabling them to reach the answer through their own thinking processes. The excitement of seeing their confidence build as they realize they can figure out problems independently is the reward of being an educator. I believe my job is to guide and support the student.
