I love teaching and everything about it. I believe that anyone can tell you about a subject area, but I believe it takes a special person to be able to teach it to students. Not every student learns the same way. I like to include several different teaching styles to help every student have success. Whether it be lecturing, hands on examples, letting the students discover on their own through examples, using tangible items or practicing test skills I think I can include these different strategies to help each student succeed. I graduated from Western Carolina University with a degree in Middle Grades Education with concentrations in Math & Science. As a student I worked in the classroom for 3 semesters doing various jobs. As a graduate from UNC Charlotte, I was blessed with the opportunity to earn a B.A. in English, as well as a professional certification in techncial writing and editing, which has afforded me both knowledge and experience in both journalism and technical media. In addition, I have acquried extensive grammatical skills due to writing research papers, as well as conducting articles which were seen by more than 30,000 subscribers nationwide at my previous publication It is my belief that every student yearns to acquire an education. In my experiences I have found that children learn in many different ways. Based on this I feel that individualized attention to each student makes them more successful in school, as well as, in many life experiences. Children learn by doing. With this in mind I find the best teaching style for each child. I enjoy using songs to enforce concepts in all subjects. I also enjoy having students discover and comprehend concepts on their own. I am far from a book and paper teacher, although, the concepts learned will relate to the material taught in class. I have worked with students in all levels of elementary school through teaching as well as during my college year. In 2006 I taught graphic design topics at Westwood College. In 2007 I taught the same subject at The Creative Circus (roughly equivalent to an MBA program for designers, writers, photographers, and art directors). In 2008 I taught in the design department for Georgia State University. This summer I traveled to a remote region in India to teach English. I have taught GRE prep for the past 3 years, covering the verbal, quantitative (math), and analytical writing (essay) areas. As a test prep teacher, I have a close knowledge of students' approach to graduate school, and the process of improving their chances of acceptance to schools of choice. I am academically qualified and more especially interested in teaching humanities courses. The method of teaching I prefer is maieutic, i.e., one which draws knowledge from the student, rather than attempts to place it in him/her from without.
