A Little Bit About Me...

I have always wanted to teach Math and Science. I have volunteered tutored on and off for five years for friends and family. I have a BS in Chemistry and have worked as a Chemist for 13 years. I currently am working as an accountant. I enjoy formulas and showing my students how everything comes togeher. Most people find Math frustrating and I enjoy showing them a different way to approach problems. A Little Bit About Me...

My first teaching experience was as a high school senior where I was given the opportunity to teach a small group of 5th graders as part of the Missouri A+ program. We began with division, quickly moving into linear and nonlinear algebra, before touching on the fundamentals of complex numbers, graph theory and trigonometry, before concluding with a derivation of the quadratic formula and its applications. I spent three semesters as the academic chair for my fraternity enforcing study hours for fraternity brothers with lower GPA’s; tutoring students in algebra, calculus, physics, and computer science, among other fields. I fit my teaching style to the student's learning style. I try to follow the model of my physics advisor, who has an excellent ability to figure out how a student learns best, then adapt his teaching and explanations accordingly. Students are often closer to understanding than they realize, and a different presentation can make a huge difference. I work to improve weak areas and capitalize on strengths for each student. I keep things relaxed, but focused; and I make sure to work through the material with my students, moving on when they are ready. A Little Bit About Me...

For the past eight years I have worked in a mentor/tutor capacity with focus on mathematics, physics and astronomy. This experience has included college level, high school and middle school students. I enjoy seeing my "students" succeed. I will be graduating in May with a BS in Physics, a BS in Astronomy and a minor in mathematics. During this time spent at Webster University I was hired by the Student Literacy Corps, a non-profit organization funded by the university for the purpose of educating students in the St. Louis Public School District in English and writing.
