While serving as an adviser to the Peer Counselors team at Woodstock Union High School, I was also a substitute teacher from 1994 to 2001 when I moved to NM. I am a published author at Haworth Press/Taylor Francis Publishers of the book Pastoral Care for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder: Healing the Shattered Soul. I have also been a newspaper editor and received an award from the Massachusetts Press Association in the category of Best Editorial. I have tutored my own children in English in an unofficial capacity.
As a strong advocate of public education, I believe in supporting our educational system. I have been told my effectiveness as a substitute teacher was the result of my respect for the students and my unshakable calmness and patience. Even as a sub, I enjoyed encouraging a love of learning in the students and a sense of curiosity. I also believe that each student has the ca ... read more

I got my first teaching experience as a lab instructor for undergraduate physics labs and fell in love with the profession. The best part of the experience is seeing the student grasp a concept that they felt out of reach. I enjoy coming up with inventive ways of communicating the difficult portions of math and science. Most of my students benefited from my teaching style which includes many examples and encourages a dialogue approach to difficult concepts.
As a non-traditional student I recognize the necessity to create a level of confidence that inspires a student to continue their education with success. I feel that perspectives on learning and my life-experience make me an ideal contact for any student interested in mastering the topics of math, physics, chemistry, or Spanish. I am experienced in the grading and writing of lab reports and other technical forms of communicat ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

During my time as a substitute teacher I encountered students with different types of learning abilities. This makes it challenging to teach concepts to the students since each student learns differently. While earning my probationary teacher’s license in Teachers for the 21st Century I learned the most effective way to teach concepts to students with different learning abilities is through the use of the Bloom method. This method will enable students to comprehend, retain, and apply the knowledge that is given to them which will help develop the students cognitive skills.
I have earned a bachelor’s and a master’s in English from New Mexico State University, which enabled me to increase my knowledge of grammar and rhetoric. While pursuing my degree I worked as a substitute teacher for the Las Cruces School District during the 2005-2006 school year. During this time I taught a varie ... read more

I love to work with children and help them to learn. I have the desire to instill in their hearts the desire to grow in knowledge and maturity. My goal is for them to do better in school by trying hard and not giving up. I try to do this using several different methods, such as direct instruction, hands on activity, question and answer, guided and oral reading, use of examples, step by step instruction, positive reward system, and teamwork. I know that a positive attitude and willingness to do my part makes a difference for them to want to do it, so I try hard to be positive. My goal is to get them to be positive, to work hard to achieve, and to be satisfied with the end results.
For the time that I spent teaching, my experience included working in a newly established school in Saipan where I was involved with a class that had different age levels, such as third, fourth, seventh an ... read more

The simple love of learning that I exuded in the classroom setting was initially enough fuel for my fire to enjoy being in the presence of this age group. I found that allowing some sense of humor to the situation in instructing most subjects eased the pain for the children who may not have wanted to be there. All children did want to learn. My getting them together at such a young age to interact with one another and problem solve alone or together was a joy to watch. I constantly combined subjects to allow the student to make use of their initial talents. Be it in writing, speaking, the use of art or music, I wanted the student to explore each inner strength. Laughing and sharing was much encouraged in each of my classes.
When I was placed in a Third Grade classroom in the Fall of 1979 for my student teaching experience, I knew then where I belonged. This was my final seme ... read more

I finished my associate’s degree in 1 year. The day I graduated I was asked to join the faculty of the community college. I taught there for 3 years and reached the highest academic rank available to me. In addition to the technical skills required of drafters, and renderers, I bring a high level of artistic training, graphics arts experience and design drafting expertise with me and I use all of it for the benefit of my students
I have taught widely varying subjects to many kinds of students. I am best when my students have anxieties about their work. I can always find a way to give the individual student or a classroom full of students ownership over the tasks at hand. That is, I can help them begin to learn and to develop a lifelong practice of learning.
