At Hope College I received a liberal arts education. So even though I have a degree in music theatre, I am also well-educated in other fields. For instance I wasn't required to take Calculus in college, however, I took this challenging course and I passed the class with an A. I have also worked at the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre as a teacher’s assistant and camp assistant the past three summers. These camps work with kids from ages 9-13. Along with looking out for the safety of the children, I participated in activities and helped come up with material. I have also worked as a director, producer, and a choreographer. One of the reasons that I'm interested in tutoring is that, although I love working with individual students and small groups, I am less interested in classroom management, discipline and the rest of the duties that come along with substitute teaching. I love teaching children and working with children's choirs. I had some very fine education classes at Aquinas. I'm very intuitive with children. While you must objectively assess the childs level, you must also be intuitive. The teacher has to tap into the innate knowledge and then approach the method of teaching in the way that child can hear you. I am 47 and a mother of an 11 yr. old.
