I've always had a love of learning, and have naturally slipped into an informal tutor role with friends. During high school I took several AP tests and at the same time earned the International Baccalaureate diploma, so I understand very well the pressures involved. I typically employ the Socratic method: asking questions to discover what the student knows (or thinks he knows) and guiding his thinking toward discovering the knowledge himself. Both my three children and my Scouts have declared that they enjoy my teaching because it engages their interest and because it is frequently humorous (when the subject and the occasions permits).
