Chess is one of my top subjects! I'm a strong amateur/club-level player, no tournament experience but I have a good grasp of general principles and tactics, along with a decent grasp of positional play and general opening knowledge (more knowledge in the systems I generally play, obviously.) I'm able to instruct/coach beginning/intermediate players. Notice also that my rate is half the rate of other chess coaches. I'm of the belief that you don't need a titled player tutoring you to improve your chess, hiring one would be a waste of money. Just hire me instead... u3batlin@yahoo.com for more info or call/text 216-820-8278 (text preferred)

I employ a personalized teaching style, very interactive. Instead of just answering a question or stating why something is the way it is, we'll work it out so there is real understanding, not just memorization of facts (which will ultimately be forgotten and thus a waste of time.) The focus is more on the method of solving the given problem rather than just the end result whenever possible.
I learned how to play chess about twenty years ago, it's been rather on and off since then. I've steadily improved and tried so many different ways to improve before finding the right method for myself that I'm confident in my many approaches to teaching. As far as other subjects, I graduated high school with honors back in 2003 with a 3.8 GPA, and scored a composite 30 on the ACT. I was awarded the Presidential Scholarship from Baldwin-Wallace, went there for a year, didn't like the school at a ... read more

My undergraduate background is in philosophy and my teaching experience is in mathematics. I am personally committed to communicating the value of knowing math principles to every person in their daily lives. Mathematics is a language for understanding problems and breaking complicated problems down into simple problems step by step. Math isn't just about numbers and variables; it is a mental habit of problem solving that can be used to de-mystify problems in every day life. I am especially interested in teaching math through the use of visual aids and games.

I always seek to individualize my instruction. No two learners are alike, and this often gets lost in a busy crowded classroom. I believe that the ability to tailor instruction to a student's individual needs is essential for academic success.
I have experience working with learners of all ages. My earliest classroom experiences while studying at Kent State were with Kindergarten and 1st Grade classes, and I have substituted in classrooms all the way up through high school. Me teaching style is similar to my leadership style, democratic. I like to have students explain what they are thinking when approaching a problem. This way, it is possible to determine where the breakdown may be. Examples, definitions, and sometimes taking a step back can make a significant difference when attempting to move forward. A strong base is vital.
My passion is sharing my knowledge with others. I studied at Kent State in Kent, Ohio. A Little Bit About Me...

I love to teach and have a passion for working with students with disabilities. I believe all children can learn, but many have their own individual learning style. My goal is to modify and accommodate those students, so that they are able to succeed and receive a high quality education. I am extremely patient, organized, and creative. I enjoy trying a variety of approaches until I find what works best for each individual child. I believe as educators we are responsible for setting up our students for success. We should give them many opportunities to learn through their own discoveries, so they can take some ownership over their learning and feel motivation and pride in what they have accomplished.

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching, or the best teachers, are required to have a certain undertanding that not just anyone has. I think teaching is a decision that demands patience, excitement, encouragement, care, and the love of making the best students possible. Constructivist approaches to learning and inquiry based teaching, appreciating multiple intelligences, and methods of learning, are all part of my approach to teaching. Students have interests that vary and their interests may very well round out their desire to learn. I strive to make sure to it that my students take away something to learn every time that I see them.
As a driven student & business owner, I've had ownership stakes in different businesses. Educationally, I have had a natural love for mathematics (BS) & life sciences (short of minors in chemistry, physics, and biology). As my involvement in business increased while still in s ... read more

I earned a 98% in my College Algebra course this past fall so I am here to lend a hand to those who could use it. My focus in college was Communication with a minor in Philosophy. I also studied international relations for 6 months in Europe, earned a certificate in graphic and web design in San Francisco, and I am currently studying medical imaging here in Cleveland. I also have a great deal of experience as a singer and guitar player, which is where the bulk of my teaching experience comes from. I have taught music to dozens of people of all ages over the past 7 years.
I believe that comparing complex concepts to everyday, personal objects and situations is the most effective way to learn. Therefore, I am big on metaphors. Algebraic concepts and formulas can often be, I have found, analogous to much simpler ideas or images. Once the abstract is related to the mundane, we can brea ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love helping others!! I feel that if an individual loves to help, aide, and teach others then the ability to teach comes naturally. I am patient, easy going, and willing to do what it takes to make sure that all concepts are understood before attempting to move forward.
With my level of collegiate expertise, I have always been the go to person when a question arose from friends, family, or other fellow classmates concerning help with an assignment. Having a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology Systems and an MBA in Executive Business Administration allows me to be pretty versatile when it comes to education related questions. I helped a friend with some high school and collegiate mathematics to graduate high school and assimilate into college. The duration of my assistance lasted a little over a year.
