I believe in talking through problems using visual ideas and simplified concepts. I prefer teaching with graphics and concepts, and then relating them to formulas and equations. While I expect hard work from my students, I also have the patience to help them understand at their own pace.
I am a currently a working civil engineer specializing in bridge design (steel and concrete structures). I received scores of 760 in Math on both the SAT I and II, and a score of 800 in Math on the GRE's. I have taken several high level calculus, engineering mathematics, and statistics classes at the University of Delaware, aside from receiving a 5 on both the Calculus and the Statistics AP Exams. As a re-founding member and President of the Syracuse University chapter of the National Society of Pershing Rifles (www.pershingriflessociety.org) I was responsible for the planning and instruction of between 12 and 20 students in the areas of Leadership, Project Management, Exhibition Drill and Wilderness Survival. Throughout my engineering curriculum I was very often tasked with assisted in the instruction of others in small group sessions as well as larger group project settings. When I earned my BS in English, with a thirty credit business minor, I already had fifteen years experience working in a family run retail store. After having the opportunity to tutor one-on-one and as a whole class, I have discovered that each student learns in a unique way.
