A Little Bit About Me...

I have a BS in Elementary Education with a GPA of 3.86 and a MS in Special Education with a GPA of 3.93. I value education and I have had a lot of experience with it. During graduate school I completed two six-month internships working full time in the classroom. I have spent the past three years as a substitute teacher in local schools. I was hired by a school district for two two-month long-term substitute positions. I was also hired as a private tutor for two students who were suspended from school. During my undergrad I worked as a tutor at a local high school and was a math tutor at my college.

I was trained well by the Literacy volunteers of America. I believe that my style is to help the student with repetition, while still making learning fun, via conversation and connecting the importance of what is being learned to every day life.
Practiced for years as an attorney for NYS. Semi-retired now. I have also been a tutor with the Literacy Volunteers of America (LVA) in Albany, NY. I met with a Korean graduate student at U. I think it is more important to understand the student than to understand the material. Don't get me wrong - as a teacher I always re-educate myself to the material if need be - but I feel my real strength as an educator lies in finding a new way to teach the same concept. If a student is failing to learn, it is less often the material itself and more often the way it is being presented. Finding a new way is something I have practiced in school and at BOCES, and is my greatest strength as a teacher.
I hold an English degree from a program that largely overlapped with Education - basically, I have studied teaching as a student at college.
