My teaching experiences have had me in classrooms with age groups ranging from preschoolers to adults. I have been able to adapt my teaching style to suit every group and individual I have worked with, as I recognize the importance of an individualistic approach to education. As every individual learns in a different manner, one-on-one studying with an attentive and adaptive tutor can make a significant difference in a pupil’s performance. I believe that you must approach education by meeting the student where he or she is rather having the student conform to your style. Therefore I embrace an eclectic style. Each student will present with some king of dominant learning style. They will be primarily visual, auditory, conceptual or experiential. It is my job to discover that style in the teaching process and direct my approach to that student.
I taught with the Bangor adult education program in the early 1980's as a graduate student in educational psychology. I taught adults a variety of subjects math, English and GED preparation at that time. I also taught English as a Second language with them. As a graduate student, I spent significant time writing and focusing on grammatical topics of technical writing. Also, I have several years of experience working with young students as an educator.
