My comments on tutoring SAT - Math : I received scores in the 700s in High School and have helped my colleagues and friends on the Math sections as well. I enjoy logic and solving problems.

I am a "kid-at-heart" who has a passion for helping other learn and succeed. I enjoy foreign languages and I want to share my enthusiasm with others. By traveling often, I remain enthusiastic about the subjects I study. Over the past 4 years especially, I have spent many weeks in Germany and France and have fallen in love with the people and their culture. My teaching style can be called old-fashioned: the best results come from patient, focused, disciplined time on task. To learn math one must work a variety of problems, and practice them diligently. My strength as a tutor is my ability to explain the algorithms in a way that students can easily grasp. This includes the vitally important requirement of why the problem is worked the way it is, not simply how.
I taught high-school math for 14 years, everything from Pre-Algebra to Calculus, in both public and private schools. I also have extensive writing experience, including for many newspapers, and am currently teaching Political Science at the Community-College level. I believe learning is about confidence. I have seen numerous students doing poorly in courses because they were convinced that they were not capable of learning the subject matter. Small successes help to build confidence in order to move on to the subsequent challenges. I believe in starting with the basics, and making sure that the students truly grasps the subject matter before moving to more difficult concepts. Often, it takes several different approaches before a student is able to understand the concept. Through experience and research, I have developed a tutoring style that has helped countless students achieve unmeasured success. My students usually respond very well to my standard explanation of the procedure for solving algebra equations, as well as other math concepts, such as logarithms, trigonometry, and derivatives.
