A Little Bit About Me...

I've tutored two kids in my neighborhood for 40 buck every two weeks. It was a marvelous experience because they were very respectful young boys...majority of the time. It was kind of hard for them to keep their focus so i drew a plan which was rewarding them with candy and toys, and of course since it was my idea I didn't charge extra. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to tutor them anymore because had to move with my mother. All in all, no matter the task I will always try my best to achieve!!!

A Little Bit About Me...

My love of teaching comes from a lifelong love of learning. After graduating with a 4.0 from Vestavia Hills High School in Birmingham, AL, I went to Auburn University to pursue an Industrial and Systems Engineering degree. After a few years of working as an Engineer with Alabama Power Company, I studied to earn my Masters of Business Administration from the University of Alabama, Birmingham.I believe that having a broad knowledge of all subjects is very important. A few years ago, I decided to leave my corporate job and stay at home to raise my child. I had always loved teaching, so I began to work on my teaching degree online. I am currently in school to go back and teach high school math. I am a bit of a math nerd but LOVE to read, so I enjoy English as well. I specialize in teaching math and English at all levels. I also can teach test preparation, study skills and various computer ... read more

Microsoft Excel is one of my top subjects! I have used spreadsheets before Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Excel since 1984. At that time I used spreadsheets to manage my company’s coffee club while a co- op. I currently use excel constantly in my work and can teach either shortcut keys or mouse clicks for navigation as well a knowing how to use a wealth of functions that can save hours of time. My teaching style is patient and allowing student discovery while encouraging questions. Lastly, I can teach how to design and prepare excel spreadsheets for import into Access, taking your learning to the next level in using Excel and Access together and when to use which for best results.

I have used Microsoft Access since 1997 in my various analyst jobs. Additionally I hold an engineering degree. Currently I am developing software tools for departments in my company to consolidate and streamline processes. I can teach basic database structure in Access all the way to developing forms and reports for users to input and extract data efficiently while managing data integrity for more robust information. Have fun learning and reach for excellence!

My personal style of learning is to learn by doing. I get my students involved in any process and get them to actually do the work so they learn it from experience, not just reading about it and taking for granted they know what is going on. Seeing the steps in action and seeing the final result brings a sense of accomplishment, which helps a student learn the correct way of doing whatever it is they are trying to learn.
I have lead many training sessions dealing with a multitude of different topics. I do my homework, and make sure I am fully prepared before any training session. I want to make sure I know the answers to any possible question before the questions are asked. I have tutored students one-on-one and in small groups from different levels of math to every aspect of English, grammar, and writing. I have taught many classes in painting and drawing, and I am a constan ... read more

I also have 3 years experience working as an income tax preparer. Lastly, I have knowledge of various software packages on both Apple and PC computer systems.
I love to see the light-bulb go on inside as children grasp material they are struggling with. At first, I teach and watch to see their facial expressions and comprehension in order to figure out what they are struggling with. Then, I approach the topic from a different way, tailored to their specific struggles. I continue to reassess their comprehension and approach the topic from different angles until I break through. Take algebra, for exam ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

During high school, my teacher requested that I help others in my class and I realized how much I loved helping others understand how accounting works. Also in helping my children with their school work, I have learned that each child is different and learns in different ways. I would describe my style of teaching as finding out how a particular student learns best and work form that foundation. Some learn better by seeing an example and then working it out on their own with someone to consult if they get stuck. Other learn better with what they hear and others what they read. It is better to see how each person learns best and teach from that angle. Also, patience is the greatest teaching aid available to any teacher or student.
I earned both of my degrees while working and caring for very young children. I feel this was possible because of my time management skills and dete ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I worked in accounting for one year as accounts receivable manager for one of the fastest growing companies in Mississippi. I also performed all accounting tasks for my own business for 3 years. I then went back to school in 2008 and finished my accounting degree at Delta State University in Cleveland Mississippi. I have tutored students in accounting and computer courses for the last year and even though I have moved to Birmingham I am still contacted by students in Mississippi through word of mouth.
I break down subjects to the most basic level and build from there. This is the way all of my football coaches did things each year, they taught football stance at the beginning of August no matter the player's experience. Some students find this condescending but it usually progresses fast enough to reach their skill level without offending. I have always found that starting at the ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I've always been a highly focused and disciplined individual in regards to academics; ever since high school I've taken a serious liking to chemistry and math, not only because of their importance in daily life but also for the mental challenges they pose. During my time at the Hazleton campus of Penn State University, I had the opportunity to tutor other students in these two subjects. I was well-rounded by the time I finished my ChE degree, having gained valuable experience from using computer software, writing lab reports, and collaborating with others on research projects. I've never lost my enthusiasm for teaching - I still enjoy going online at Yahoo Answers and assisting people across the country with problem solving.
Few things bring me more personal joy than helping others become better learners and seeing them smile when they overcome their struggles. I never use a one-si ... read more

I have 20 plus years of teaching experience. I have worked with students from pre-school age to adults. I have taught students with a variety of disabilities and functioning levels from severely impaired to gifted.
Many students struggle with relationships and well as their academics. I believe in creating a safe, nuturing environment were a student is able to work at his own pace, at his own level, and feel a bond with his teacher. Setting realistic and obtainable goals with the student is a key factor to success. Measuring and documenting progress allows student, teacher, and family to see a visual record of growth. Addressing multiple intelligences and multiple learning styles are essential for struggling students. Finding a student's best mode of learning increases self-esteem and time on task.

More About This Tutor...

I have tutored students in math and science (mainly math) for over 13 years. I have helped students in various levels of mathematics - basic math, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and pre-calculus. After working with me on a consistent basis (2/3 days/week) many of the students have received honors in their math courses, including "Most Improved" and "Highest Average". I am also proud to say that a couple of students have actually decided to pursue careers that require a good understanding of math - i.e. engineering, architecture.
I enjoy working with students of all ages, although most of my experience has been with middle school age and older. I use a couple of different techniques to help students understand math, including using visual aides, problem solving techniques, role reversal (where they explain a lesson to me), blackboard/whiteboard work, and games. I believe it's ... read more
