A Little Bit About Me...

I have taken many courses over an extended period of time. In 2002 I entered the Surgical Technology program at Jefferson Technical College; I managed a 4.00 and missed only a couple of days. During the many testing phases of the program I stayed and helped get other students through the program, I was commended on my drive and determination to help other students, all while maintaining my grade average. I pulled down some of the highest scores in the programs history. This didn't go unnoticed, as shortly after graduation I was asked by the Dean of Allied Health and Surgical Technology Program Coordinator to come back and teach. I taught all of the prerequisite core classes, Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, Human Growth and Development and Medical Terminology. I have been a playwright for the last ten years, which is why I chose to get my BA in writing. Being involved in extensive reading and writing programs in and out of school has given me a deep appreciation for words. Over the course of my education, I was fortunate enough to tutor several young students struggling with reading and writing, as well as weekly creative writing workshops with elementary students.
The satisfaction that comes from working with a student, one on one, who is struggling, and seeing them change from angry and insecure to confident and proud is immense. I haven't found it anywhere else. As a teacher, my initial goal is to discover how to facilitate the individual learning styles of my students. I strive to instill a confidence that will lead to a willing and open mind conducive to further learning.
