A Little Bit About Me...

I feel that I have a very creative teaching style. I believe that every child learns differently! Once getting to know a student, I can come up with lesson plans that are specifically for them.
I am currently an Indiana University elementary education major! I love working with students and I have been working with all ages ever since I was 11 years old. I started babysitting at 11, and have been working with kids ever since. I was a nanny for three summers, and I have worked at Build-a-Bear workshop. I have been working in classrooms since my freshman year of college, and this past semester I started writing lesson plans.

ADD/ADHD is one of my top subjects! I worked as a social worker and coached children in the school and home setting.

I studied Elementary Education during my undergraduate. During this time, I was a student teacher on several different occasions. I assisted the home room teacher and independently planned and taught lessons to the students. I have worked with grades 1 to 5 as a student teacher. I enjoyed teaching and was a very passionate teacher, but I realized that work as a social worker would allow me to help my students on a more personal level. During my work as a social worker, I worked with clients in the school and home setting. I educated teachers and school staff regarding my client's mental illnesses, and I developed classroom strategies to help my clients thrive in the classroom. For the past two years, I have taught ESL in South Korea. I created and taught lessons to middle school female students. I helped them develop their listening, speaking, and writing skills. I reviewed all ... read more

Teaching children is a passion of mine. All children are different, therefore they learn in many ways. I believe it is essential to include various activities in the classroom that allow students to gain knowledge and information they need. I believe that integrating technology, music, dance, and physical activities help students learn. Using manipulatives and hands-on activities will allow students to not only learn the material, but discover that learning is fun! I believe that with positive classrooms and encouragement, all children will find joy in learning and reach their potential. With each student I come into contact with, I make it a point to help them become life long learners and apply what they’ve learned to their everyday life.
I earned a bachelors degree in Elementary Education with special attention to reading from Purdue University. In Aug. 2008-May 2009 I taught ki ... read more

Over the course of my professional career, I have spent 22 of my 25 years as a 4th grade teacher. This was a goal of time since childhood, having been inspired by my own 4th grade teacher. I still love this age and remain inspired by my own students. I have, over the years, received training through my full time employer to keep me up to date of the ever changing techniques that education introduces. In addition to teaching 4th grade, I spent two years in the Chapter 1 (now Title 1) program. During that assignment I tutored students in grades 1-3 in reading and math skills.
After all these years, I still love teaching children! Every child has the potential to learn. However, it is the duty of the teacher to discover the child's maximum potential. I am consistent, fair, and firm. While I am firm, I do still believe that children have a greater chance of succeeding if they ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I have a real passion for working with youth and their families and believe that it is a calling that can change lives. I enjoy working in collaboration with students. As a teacher, I see the student/teacher relationship as a partnership bound by communication and compassion. A teacher must listen to his/her students and try to understand the world from the student's point of view. From this foundation, a teacher is then able to present or teach material in the way a student is apt to understand it. Students learn best by doing, and I am committed to providing hands on learning experiences for my students. I know that all students can learn and I am dedicated to making that happen.
I have worked with youth all my life. I managed youth services at a library and was responsible for all programming and special events for youth of all ages as well as programs for struggling, beginning ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a 2010 graduate of IUPUI, my student teaching experience has allowed me to work with a diverse group of individuals. For my first student teaching experience, I was immersed in an English as a second language setting. At my second student teaching experience, I was involved in an inquiry based, hands-on leaning curriculum that differentiated instruction to meet the needs of every child. I have had the opportunity to work with students with different learning styles and multiple ability levels. This has allowed tremendous grouth in my ability to adapt to new situations and provide instruction that is unique and meaningful.
