Lauren -- Tutor Extroadinaire

I've taken courses in tutoring, grammar, Shakespeare, and writing composition, as well as worked in the University Writing Center at my university as a writing consultant. I currently tutor three Middle Eastern students in writing composition, conventions of English grammar, and health. I do freelance proofreading and editing.
Because English and literature is subjective, I use a nondirective approach to ensure that the student is exercising their creative problem solving skills and critical thinking skills. Basically, I ask them about their interpretation of the text or their own writing. With grammar, I typically model the correct use for the student two or three times, and then have them finish finding patterns and correcting mistakes themselves.

Voice gives way to ownership of each individual's writing; one feels directly connected to the writing process by engaging with their voice. I am open to the individual's choices within the writing process and provide support and the means for the student to succeed.
