My tutoring style is very friendly and supportive. I'm much more like a coach than a teacher. I work closely with each student to identify stumbling blocks and I introduce alternate ways of understanding that concept working interactively with the student until they understand it. I believe working in this way insures that the student is responsible for their own work, yet knows that if they are stuck I will help them through the areas which are hard for them.
I have three children ages 12, 17 and 20 and have had many years of real world tutoring with them. I've also tutored other students, which is far easier. I have recently learned to incorporate meaning-centered philosophy (Viktor Frankl) to my teaching with a Portfolio methodology. I use these methods with a dynamic demeanor and with positive re-inforcement remarks on their papers.I learned Portfolio method at the Junior College and have significant results with it. While holding certification in three varied subjects, I feel that my strengths lie in teaching transferability of acquired skills. Having a bachelor degree in an educational field, an MBA, and 8 years of various "real world" experience that includes both retail and project management gives me an advantage when teaching.
