Never stop learning!

I grasped the importance of education at a very young age and excelled throughout school. Early in my youth I also developed a sincere passion for helping fellow classmates who I saw were having difficulties comprehending course material. I had a knack for connecting with students, identifying the point of confusion, and creating different avenues to reach full comprehension of a subject matter. I have since went on to develop tutoring groups on all educational levels. I co-founded a youth group T.U.F.F. (Teach Us First Foundation) where we attend local elementary schools offering tutoring services in Math, English, Sciences and Social Studies. During high school I developed a teen study group entitled Let's Rap where we would meet (with professional tutors on site), assist each other with homework and discuss any material that was causing confusion in class. Algebra II is one of my top subjects! I have tutored Algebra 2 for more than two years now. I have used various technological tools like Maple and WebAssign to help students solve complex problems. My approach to helping students learn algebra is to consistently remind them of basic stuff while they delve themselves into complex problems. I like to tell students, "You are working too hard." This means, I have a better and simpler way of understanding and solving the problem. When students get too submerged into problems, they tend to forget basic stuff. That is where reminding them of basic concepts becomes important. One of the examples is when students see a really long equation, they automatically think it involves some complex formulas and techniques while it can be just broken down with simple concepts.

I involve students a lot during the learning period. I consistently ask them questions about the topic and let them think for a while. I give them as much information as possible so that they do not miss any information while solving problems. I make students write. That is how they learn. I consistently give students concepts and them demonstrate with sample questions.

My comments on tutoring Algebra II : I am known as the Ace of Algebra

I have taught Math at the middle level for four years, helping students gain skills and confidence to improve their math performance. I have taught general and advanced Math classes. My instruction has guided students to perform better in class and on standardized tests. I emphasize that standardized tests make the math process easier by displaying the possible correct answer, so working backwards is an option. But most importantly I have learned that several students suffer from test anxiety in class and more frequently on standardized tests. So I teach to make students feel more confident with their math skills and I teach test taking strategies.
I like to include technology and real world scenarios when giving instruction. I try to simplify to learning process of math skills. Math consists of rules and formulas that must be followed to be successful. Repetition creates a discipl ... read more
