More About This Tutor...

My teaching experience began during high school when I would help out at my church's Sunday School providing remedial services like handing out papers. Since then I have earned a bachelor's degree in finance and economics with ambitions to earn a PhD. During my undergraduate experience I tutored beginning accounting students for a couple hours a week aside from the usual work of helping classmates. Upon graduation I began looking other ways to continue teaching. About 10 months ago I began volunteering at a community center. There I partnered with another gentleman to teach English as a language to immigrants. It was so much that I decided to make this a weekly ritual. Currently, I am an Office Manager for a small construction company
As cliché as this sounds - my favorite part of teaching is the satisfaction of knowing I made a difference. I have interacted with individuals ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, I have made it my goal to not only be successful in my own academic studies but to also assist others in achieving success in their academic careers. I have a diverse set of interests as shown by my bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in chemistry. While in college, I tutored students one on one in the areas of general and organic chemistry. Following graduation, I spent a year in South Korea teaching English as a second language to preschool and elementary students. Currently, I am a No Child Left Behind tutor assisting middle and high school students in the areas of mathematics, reading comprehension, fluency, and phonemic awareness.
I have participated in several tutoring training seminars that have taught me various methods of teaching. First of all, students learn differently and it is important t ... read more

I believe in meeting each child at his/her current skill level and building confidence and concepts from there. Each student has his/her own strengths and weaknesses, and learns at his/her own pace. Rather than expecting all students to understand a concept using one teaching style, I teach a lesson using multiple modalities followed by step-by-step tasks which reward successive approximations to a concept. The students who catch on quickly can use the time to build on their skills and expand upon the concepts, while I work more closely with students struggling with the concepts presented. I do this because I care, and believe academic success and personal confidence are key to life success.
Ten years ago, at just 14, I knew I had a calling to help others reach full potential in all aspects of their lives, and did something about it. At that time, I implemented a scheduled and drop ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Because I have had the opportunity to work with students of many different ages and abilities, I have learned that there is no "right" way to teach/tutor. As a tutor I have had to adjust my teaching style depending on the type of student I am working with. What works for one student may not necessarily work with another. For example, if a student has a lackadaisical attitude, I will do what I can to try to motivate him/her. Other students may be very motivated, but may need help with focusing, organizing or other key skill. With all students, I try to be as patient as possible and as clear as I possibly can when I am explaining material.
After beginning my tutoring experience as a volunteer with Metro North Adult Basic Education in 2003, I have continued to tutor students at various grade levels in many different subjects. I find it to be a tremendously rewarding experience. ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

First, I love helping people learn. I strive to show students and people that chemistry, math and science is all about a thought process and is something that everyone can learn. Teaching sciences is about helping and showing students how to approach the problems, and problem solve not to just solve problems individually. I also believe in using and finding many methods/examples to find how the student learns best.
I have extensive experience in teach chemistry to students. In the past while at the University of Wyoming I had extensive one on one tutoring sessions with both college students and HS students (AP students). I have also tutored in math, and physics in the past also.

Chemistry is a science of experiment, and highly affects the lives of everybody. My students have different back ground and are from different parts of the world. I believe that every student can learn chemistry in different ways. Above all my unique ability is to appear at any time that the students need help, including my prep time. I am very talented teacher in all sciences and mathematics which makes me different from many other teachers. Since I became a teacher I have tutored students in mathematics, biology, general science, chemistry, and physics other than teaching. I am also tutoring students at University of Minnesota and Saint Paul College since 2007.

More About This Tutor...

My teaching career has afforded me the opportunity to work individually with students of all ages and from economically and culturally diverse backgrounds. I believe each student thrives when he or she is able to explore the writing process in a tutorial context, as a complement to the classroom setting, which cannot address individual problems as effectively. Many students, especially those having difficulty with composition, grammar and mechanics, need patience and encouragement from a tutor before their styles of learning emerge and they are able to identify and resolve obstacles to learning. I love to see students make connections between their experience and larger ideas, and to see how they reflect one another. I believe that, when we are first able to write, we fall in love with the process and can rediscover that passion with some assistance at any stage of life.

My teaching style is unique in that I make the learning experience a two-way street between myself and whomever I'm teaching. I allow students to teach other students.I shun lectures in favor of open discussion. Most importantly, I incorporate different learning styles into my lesson plan so that visual, kinesthetic, oral, and linguistic learners have an equal opportunity to assimilate the information.
I have tutored, supervised, and entertained children and students since the year 2002. My first job was a theater specialist position at a day camp which taught me indispensable communication and multi-tasking skills. I have since worked with students in a variety of settings, subjects, and media. This past year I've held two positions which required me to tutor "at risk" children in the areas of math, reading, composition, and anger management.

More About This Tutor...

I will graduate from the College of Saint John’s University this spring with a major in English Education. Classes I have taken at CSB/SJU include extensive English and Education courses and a continuation of Spanish education. I worked as a paid English tutor during my 4-year college career through Upward Bound Tutoring program. I fell in love with helping middle school and high school aged youth in a small group and one on one setting. I find my favorite moments of education to be in a one-on-one or small group setting. I hope to find more of those memories at your institution. I also participated in a summer internship in Katmandu, Nepal. I worked with the Whitefield School, teaching grammar, sentence structure and a writing workshop.
I am in the Education field to make a difference in student’s lives. I hope to do this through instruction and example. I believe these two eleme ... read more
