My involvement in a Tutor/Mentor program at an international high school was an experience that was invaluable. What I learned is that education becomes a form of symbiosis. While I taught students how to peer review drafts, articulate ideas, pronounce words, read books; they actually taught me little bit about my own customs, values and beliefs, being an ‘American’ student. It is through teaching others that I learned how I taught myself. As a result of this epiphany, I am propelled to make a career out of a similar role, the role I had as a tutor, mentor, role model, and friend.

I am a high school teacher of 25.5 years. I graduated from Mobile College with a Bachelor of Science degree, and from Alabama State University with a Master's degree, both in education. My experience has been working with students that are academically disadvantaged. I have tutored elementary students in reading and language for over 10 years. At the University of West Florida I have maintained a 3.6 GPA and have been on the Dean’s List and the President’s List. This is an important achievement.
