A Little Bit About Me...

My philosophy of teaching is to train the student to think like a scientist and/or mathematician. It is not just about getting the right answer but rather understanding the fundamental principals of a subject. This enables the student to try previously unseen problems and succeed. I also believe in varying the techniques used. If a student has trouble with their teacher or text books approach, a different method should be explored. Imparting true understanding is a satisfying experience that I always aim for.
I am a graduate student transitioning from physics to astrophysics, my goal being a PhD in Astrophysics. My undergraduate degree is a BS in Physics with a minor in astronomy. I taught as a substitute teacher in New Jersey for 3 years before moving to California. I have a multiple subjects credential from New Jersey. I taught at all grade levels and all subjects including high school students. I have been a substitute teacher in California for the past 8 years. I have multiple subjects credential in California. I am patient with students and encourage them to learn at their own pace. Students learn at a different rates and have different comprehension abilities. Some are able to absorb a material faster than others. But they will all learn the subject matter if given the chance and encouragement and by introducing the subject/explaining it in different ways with patience and concern.
