I am patient but firm. If a student isn't willing to put in a 100% effort then I will not waste my time. I have always gotten exemplary grades from anyone I've tutored. I teach each student differently, some are more visual, or auditory, or hands-on, and I adjust my methods to better benefit my students. English and elementary skills are my best field. I had a college level english when I was in 8th grade. Math is an okay subject for elementary but I'm not the best at algrebra or higher. My spelling skills and writing skills are excellent. Like I have said before my total english level was a college level when I was in 8th grade. If you need help with your english or science it's a really good idea to come to me with it. I will work with the children to fit their needs in the subject. High school was a blast, and I loved every moment!! I was the history buff, drama geek, grammar police and still am to this day. My teaching style is whatever best fits the student. When working one on one with a student I practice a few different methods of teaching and whichever one they feel the most comfortable with and I receive the most attentiveness from, is the one that I continue to use. For example, some students prefer that you walk them through a lesson, go over a few practice problems and then let them work on assignments, knowing that they have you to assist them when needed. Others might want to jump into the assignment and when a question arises, they ask you to refer to the lesson to help them find the solution. I consider myself a facilitator, not an authoritarian. I ascribe to the principles set forth by Malcolm Knowels and Benjamin Bloom. I rely on the strength and motivation of the student. I hesitate to call myself "teacher." I have a positive and patient way of getting through to students. Science was my favorite subject matter in college and I like to break down difficult information into terms that are easier to understand and follow. For example, I like to break down scientific terms by their roots. In doing so, my students not only remember what the terms mean for that class but can also apply that knowledge in future class work.
