A Little Bit About Me...

I have 31 years of teaching both learning disabled and cognitively disabled children. I have been trained extensively in working with youngsters who are dyslexic and dyscalculic ( math disabilities). In addition I have taught children who were on the spectrum, including those with Aspergers. I am proficient at assessing a child's strengths and weaknesses and developing a learning program which will build upon strengths in order to address underlying weaknesses.
I believe that every child is able to learn and that all have the right to achieve their maximum potential. I am structured in my approach but strive to listen to the child's opinions. In the past, my classroom rules were based upon Jim Fay's Love and Logic; essentially, I will treat you with respect, and feel free to do anything that does not cause a problem for anyone else.

My undergraduate degree and work experience was in criminal justice. Since retiring from the investigative field I have obtained my Masters in Education specializing in literacy and learning in the content areas. I have been teaching full time in South Korea for the last four years. I started out teaching young learners phonics for one year, English conversation to high school students full time for one year.
