I am patient and encouraging. I have a talent for identifying how people learn. It is important to know what works with people in order to dail into the proper approach. Some people can read and immediately understand. Others need the repetition of hands-on experience. Some need memory tricks like "Mickey Mouse" for spelling "accoMModate" or "seize the weird sheik at your Leisure" for remembering exceptions to the "i-before-e" rule. As someone who felt in my youth that if I could only pay attention I could learn anything has taught me how to break down the barriers to focus and how it can shape a students success in any discipline. Focusing on my learning style has taught me how to demonstrate complex ideas in ways that are easy to absorb. I tend to find different ways to relate material to students in ways that are fun. I used a dollars and cents approach to teach young students the importance of decimals, fractions, and basic arithmetic as how it affected their own bottom line: their allowance, milk money and so on. I love working with students and teaching them something new.
