My comments on tutoring Elementary Vocabulary : I just finished my first year at CWI and am currently taking English 102 - took predominately English, editing, computer, marketing, and math classes. I also home schooled my children for ten years, was a teacher's assistant for six years in elementary schools, and taught first grade in a small private school last year.

Learning should be fun, yet focused. I also use the Socratic Method which asks questions instead of answers in order to invoke student thinking.

Literacy specialist K-12 offering services beginning June

I moved from teaching within a classroom to accepting a reading specialist position in a high poverty district. My comments on tutoring Elementary Vocabulary : Have writer's vocabulary

I use the Socratic method, meeting the students where they are, and using gentle questioning to build on that base. I start with the assumption that all children are gifted learners, and communicate that belief to them. It is essential to create a base of success upon which to build future success. I also spend time finding something to like deeply about each child; and discovering what the child is interested in. When an adult takes an interest in the child's world, and shares that interest in a positive reinforcing manner, it opens to door to learning.
