Experienced instructor with 99 ASVAB

I am an instructor at Virginia College and VC recently cancelled its ASVAB tutoring program. I have had many successful students go through the program, but due to funding constraints the college can no longer support the initiative. I enjoy teaching very much. I think a strength trying to use a student's active content or prior knowledge to connect to material. My attempts are always to make the student feel empowered by the education process. If you can connect to way what they are into, either cartoons, hip-hop, popular culture, with conservative humor, then sometimes you can gain their understanding much quicker. A Little Bit About Me...

As the child of college educated parents who themselves were educators, I was drawn to education early in my life. I love to read and to help others to read. I have a Masters Degree in Reading Instruction. I also like to write. Wherever I worked as an educator, I always emphasized developing writing skills, whether I was teaching middle school students or high school students or community college students. I also did homebound tutoring for a few years when I was a dean and then assistant principal.
