I've studied both engineering and biochemistry in pursuing my degree (biochemistry). My experience and knowledge in chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular genetics was adequate enough for A's in all of these classes. When I was in high school I had a lot of anxiety about math. I went back to college late in life and I was terrified that I would have to take a few math courses to graduate. It wasn't long before math was my favorite class and I changed my major. When I was in school I helped a lot of my classmates with calculus. I was a technical instructor for an oil/gas company for just over 5 years. We focused on competency based training along with ensuring skills would transfer into the workplace. Prior to that, I graduated from a highly technical private engineering school with a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. The school was on a trimester schedule so that we could finish a normal 5 year degree in only 4 years so it was a highly demanding program. When I was in high school, I volunteered to tutor students in math and science during my study hall hour. I was also in AP math, science and english classes. Math, Science, Writing, and Critical Thinking

My favorite part about teaching is the moment of sudden understanding that you can see in a student's eyes when they've got it. The challenge, of course, is getting to that moment, especially in a subject like math or science. While certain subjects may come easier to some people than to others, I do not believe that anyone is "incapable" of understanding and excelling in any field of study. If understanding is lacking, that is only because the student needs to be presented the material in a way that makes sense to them.
