I am currently a graduating senior at Wilberforce University. When that day comes, I will have a BS in Biology. This degree has allowed me to gain hands on experience within different fields of study along with enhancing my kowledge of the biological sciences and all that it embodies. Also with Spanish, I have not had the experience of teaching but I have been learning the Spanish language for the last ten years (since the sixth grade). I can read as well as write the language and hold a descent conversation. I have previously worked as a tutor/mentor in this field of study for high school graduates. I have working with people of all ages since my teen years to help them excel in areas they once struggled. I currently do some subbing in local districts and help out area students in various content areas. I taught school for 12 years at the middle level, mostly in Math. I developed and implemented an AT-Risk program in the Milwaukee area. Then became a stay at home mom. I currently work at an area Insurance Company and help students when I can.
I try a variety of approaches to see what works with each student. If you have 25 students in a class, you can have 25 different learning styles. I believe a lot in hands-on and learning from others. I match my teaching style to the learning style of each individual. My first session with the student is when I can determine whether their learning style is visual, audial, tactile, kinesthetic or a combination of these. I then write a prescription of study with the student that include several objectives and a timeline to achieve these goals. I work with the student to promote a sense of achievement and to build confidence for future learning.
