I have studied chemistry and biology throughout my undergraduate career. Classes I have taken and received high grades in include beginning chemistry classes, organic chemistry, beginning biology classes, and cell biology. I just recently graduated from Ball State and am returning in the Fall to begin work on my masters in chemistry. My interest lies in analytical chemistry, which teaches you the various techniques and apparatuses that every chemist should know how to use, as well as real world skills to help a chemist know how to approach a certain problem or situation without the help of a lab manual. Education does not stop with books. I incorporate "real life" experiences with the material being presented. I try to make the subject fun and meaningful to the student. Every child wants to learn, although a more creative design may be needed to find a child's greatest potential. Patience, consideration, and encouraging words are simple tasks to help the self esteem of children in a child's education.
With a degree from Purdue University and continuing on to get a degree in engineering, I am engaged in many areas of science and math. Even at a young age I taught my younger sister basic mathematical and reading skills even before she entered kindergarten; we called it "school". My teaching style is helping the student arrive at the correct solution. In problem based courses this is usually done through asking the student what they think the next step should be and guiding them through the process of problem solving. Once they start to understand problem solving then they do not only improve in the course that I am tutoring them in but in their other courses as well. In a nutshell I try to help students learn how to learn.
I tutored all through college. I have tutored one-on-one and small groups, and I have also been a TA and taught a few class periods. In addition i tutored a student in High School in several subjects. Most of my experience tutoring has been in math, physics and engineering, but I am also fluent in Spanish.
