My one to one teaching style is tailored to adapt to the students learning style. However, my experience shows that keeping the student active during the learning process promotes a better learning. I use Microsoft Excel during my lessons. I create formulas, graphs, etc. and the Excel spreadsheet and ask the student to enter the data so that he/she can see how things change with different entries. I also work with the student to solve problems. Another approach I use is to never answer a question directly. I always ask them questions in a manner that allows them to be guided to the answer. My formal background is in mathematics and statistics. I have been a computer programmer since 1984 for companies including Intel and Motorola. I am a devout reader in a wide swath of topics and authors. My yearning has been to mix scientific exploration while performing a social good.
Open and flexible.Rule #1 is to listen to the student. Rule #2 is to teach the other the way I would want to be taught. My preference in teaching is to first teach the student the practical side of things. Can the student perform the basic calculations for example so as to pass the exam. Once the student has developed a "gut level understanding", then I can move onto the more theoretical understanding of the topic, depending of course on where the student is at.
